It’s been a while since you’ve seen our faces here. You see, when we’re here, we’re sharing our lives and families with you and (we hope) encouraging you along the way. Our families are always number one to each of us and Instagram will always be well down the list of priorities. So when things get busy or overwhelming or our family just needs us that little bit more, Instagram is first to go.

When you don’t see us here, we’re living our lives, the same as usual, but without the headspace to learn about ever-changing algorithms. We’re busy trying to learn the algorithms (read: confusing patterns!) of our minds and those of our kids.

Moni and I are both in a season of learning… are we ever not? Learning about life and it’s diversity, learning about God’s sustaining grace, and learning how to show that grace to others.

So we’ll keep chugging along as we face each new change to the algorithms of life, knowing the Giver of Life is never-changing. He is steadfast. The same today as He was at the beginning. We hope you feel this certainly in your life, too, as you plod along beside us.

Remember: You always your breath with you!

Do you struggle to remember what tricks to use when anxiety catches up with you? I do.. a lot! But thankfully God has given us our most powerful calming tool in the power of breathing, so no matter what your circumstances are, your breath will always be there for you!

Inverted Triangle Breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system when you’re feeling amped up, anxious or stressed. This means slowing your breathing basically triggers a calm-down response so you can think clearly again.

Here’s how to do it:

First, think of an inverted (upside down) triangle shape. (Pro tip: When I’m really stressed, I also trace it in the air or on my leg with my finger.)

Then breathe in deeply for 2 seconds, hold your breath for 2 seconds, and then blow out for 2 seconds.

Do the same again, but for 3 seconds at each step.

And then repeat for 4 seconds at each step.

You can keep extending until you feel calmer. My top is about 8 seconds, but often I’ll just repeat at 4 or 5 seconds for a while.

Once you feel calmer, remind yourself that you’ve got this, and decide on your next step. That might be reaching out to a friend for support, scheduling some rest, reducing your to-do list, or tackling one small manageable task. You get to choose.
